Susie West Art Classes
"Professional tuition, with professional materials, for more professional results"
Our Ethos
Everyone can draw and produce art work they can be really proud of. But most of us need someone to teach us the basics, with good quality materials.
What we do
* After-School and holiday classes for Year 3 upwards.
* Fun projects specially designed to both challenge older or more able children, but also simplified to get fabulous results for the younger or less confident, all using professional materials. It’s difficult to achieve a good result with a pot of ready mixed poster paint and a bent brush!
* We use a wide variety of materials including acrylics, watercolours, pen and ink, pastels, markers, charcoal, lino-printing, mosaics, and silk painting. As the children’s skills develop, they gain the confidence of knowing which materials and techniques will best express their ideas.
* Each project is introduced in a specific context, eg for use in fine/contemporary art, illustration, package design, graphics, advertising, etc. helping the children learn that every image/product they come across will have had input by an artist/designer.

Some nice comments from parents:
"This art club has changed her life! She is spending all her free time painting, drawing and making things. She loves it!"
"I can't believe the things she is coming home with. You have an amazing gift for choosing the techniques and styles that are within the grasp of a 9 year old, but look like they have been done by a professional. And obviously great skill as a teacher in keeping them all engrossed so the work is completed. She absolutely loves the club, and so do I!"
"She is loving the sessions so much and we are thrilled at how the confidence your lessons have given her is showing in other areas of her schoolwork and life outside school also!"
"Just to say thank you again for the wonderful day yesterday. The boys have both been inspired! We have finally put to bed the myth that they can't draw. Thank you."
"When we were away, she was looking at the different landscapes and trying to use the techniques you had taught her to capture them. So wonderful, thank you."
"He couldn't stop talking about the whale that he painted and he never tells me anything!"
"Thanks so much for running your wonderful art club. She absolutely loved it and has been so proud showing off the things she did with you."
"He had an absolutely fabulous time and made some lovely pieces he is very proud of."
"They have thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and we have been amazed at the lovely things they have brought home."
"She is totally inspired and so my kitchen table is now covered in paper, paint and paint brushes and I got dragged to tesco yesterday to buy more paint!"
"I just wanted to thank you for the fantastic time my daughter has had at your Art Club. She is so excited every Thursday and loves showing us what she has produced. An entire wall of her bedroom has been turned into a gallery displaying all the art she has created! ...She loves it so much and has learned such a lot."
"It is with immense sadness that I have to tell you that (she) will no longer be attending your after school art club... This is because she has recently moved schools (at exceptionally short notice).... your Art Club was always (and no doubt will continue to be) a true therapeutic haven, filled with astonishing projects that produced amazing products and results. I am truly thankful to you both for your abundant talent, enthusiasm and belief in seeing the potential in everyone. I know (she) will miss you both terribly, but we have had some of her art work framed and they hang proudly around both our home and her grandparents'..."
